About Me

My photo
I have been digiscoping for around 18 years now and through persistence and good equipment I am getting great results. I use a Swarovski 80hd spotting scope and a Sony RX100 camera which has just replaced my old faithful Nikon P5100. The majority of my bird watching takes place in County Durham in England which has a variety of different habitats from coast to moors. Digiscoping is great because it allows me to get good photos without disturbing birds. VIEW THE LATEST PHOTOBOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE

Red Kite - Harewood Village

Had a trip down to Harrogate area in the hope of catching up with a long staying Osprey with Pete. He was good enough to show me the location as he could not stay long. However it looks as though the Osprey has finally decided to move on.
So to cut my losses I went over to Harewood to see if I could get some Red Kites.
As usual there were plenty in the air, but with the cloud cover being totally white, it meant nearly all of the aerial views of them were just about silhouettes.
Driving through Harewood I noticed a number of Red Kites flying real low over a few houses, so I turned in the street.
The aerial views, although much closer were still mainly silhouetted, then I saw a Red Kite perched in a tree.
I got my scope onto it and started taking a few photos before deciding to see if I could get closer.  I went behind some garages and there was an outdoor coffee morning going on with loads of people there. The Kite was not bothered one bit.
So I got some great photos of it, Others landed briefly then took off again. So what turned out as a slow start was made up by my best ever Red Kite shots.  Cheers Pete.
