Thailand - Phuket
Here are some of the pictures from my recent trip to Thailand. The Collared Kingfishers were great, but a little wary. I was able to sit in a nice comfy chair early on a morning and just wait for them to come to the tree. They kept prospecting the nest hole and displaying to each other.
The Indian Roller was great to see although it was high up in a tree and I was hoping for better shots, but although I saw it a few times these were the best that I was able to get.
They could be seen on occaision in flocks of a dozen birds hawking insects high above the jungle,
One of the first birds I saw was the Scaly Breasted Munia - a bit smaller than our sparrow it has stunning markings on it.
I also saw a White Bellied Sea Eagle soaring high up, an unidentified Eagle soaring above the jungle
and possible a Goshawk species above the jungle - all too distant for photos.
June is not the best time for birding in Southern Thailand as most of the birds are further north in cooler areas, but there are still plenty of species to see.
